Mayor of Philadelphia will ask to end state control of city schools

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Reuters) - Mayor James Kenney of Philadelphia said Thursday he would seek to end state control of the city's school district, the nation’s 8th largest, and vowed to increase local tax support to bring city schools up to modern standards.
